Since 1988, Not So Modern Drummer magazine has attracted the eyes and ears of the world-wide drum community. While still featuring articles and regular columns from some of the world’s foremost vintage and custom drum experts, new owner and editor George Lawrence has added much more modern content about new gear, DIY repair, interviews and news. The NSMD website is highly trafficked and reaches all drummer demographics, from the tattooed crowd to the empty nesters.

Circulation: 20,000! Not So Modern Drummer is distributed free of charge in every drum shop in America, at many major music store drum departments, drum teaching studios, University percussion departments, drum shows and other drummer centric venues. It is also sent to subscribers, and is available on newsstands and in bookstores. Each print magazine is read by an average of 3 people which means 60,000 people pick up each issue of NSMD. It is also free to read online. In June 2010 our online readership averaged 150 viewers per day with 70% new viewers. Our readership consists of drummers of all ages, from beginners to seasoned pros, who are interested reading about and buying the oldest and the newest in drums.

Your purchase of any size print ad also includes a free banner ad on our website and an active link from your ad in the online magazine. The reader clicks the link in your ad and is taken to your website. We can also provide you with tracking information of how many customers click your ad and how many click through to your website.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • ART: All ads must be submitted as camera-ready. If additional preparation is required, all work will be billed to the advertiser. Ad materials received after the due date may (at the publishers discretion) be held for the next publication. There is a $15 surcharge for scanning mechanical artwork.
  • FILM: NSMD is currently printed on a Direct to Plate printing system. We no longer accept film separations for ads. Instead, please submit your ads in the form of a print ready PDF file with appropriate printed proof copy or see below for other options.
  • MECHANICALS: Mechanicals should contain overlays for screen tints and negative halftones for photos. All materials should conform with current SWOP standards. Corrections must be supplied with typeset copy. All corrections must be received by ad due date.
  • AD MATERIAL ON DISK: Please supply the following: QuarkXpress document (Version 8 or earlier), Adobe InDesign document (CS4 or earlier), Encapsulated Postscript Document, Photoshop file, or print ready PDF format. All linked or placed TIFF and/or EPS files, a laser print dummy, preference document (Quark) and all necessary fonts (in TTF) should accompany your ad. High Density PDF files may also be submitted via email (shad@notsomoderndrummer.com). Digital materials can also be supplied on CD or DVD media. All add material should be supplied at minimum 300 dpi. Ads must be received no later than material due date for the issue in which the space is booked.
  • DISCOUNTS: 15% commission allowed to accredited advertising agencies only. (Agency must handle all billing to client and provide all materials). 10% discount to Drum Shops and Music stores that carry NSMD for resale. NO MULTIPLE DISCOUNTS.
  • BLEEDS: Available on 1/4 page ads and larger only. 10% surcharge for all ads with bleed
  • POSITIONS: Special page positioning available at 10% additional. 1/6 page minimum for positioning requests.

CLASSIFIED ADVERTISEMENTS

For Sale or Trade & Wanted Ads: Payment must accompany ad copy. No discounts apply. Visa/Mastercard/AMEX/Discover accepted. Classified ads must be recieved no later than the 25th of the month prior to publication (see Issue Closing Dates)

COPY AND CONTRACT REGULATIONS

  1. Publisher reserves the right to approve all advertising copy, and the right to reject any advertisement at any time. Publisher reserves the right to cancel an advertisement even if receipt has been acknowledged, and to identify advertising that may be mistaken for editorial matter.
  2. Advertiser and agency are jointly responsible for payment of all advertising insertions. All costs of collection, whether or not suit is filed, including attorney fees, shall be paid by the advertiser and/or agency.
  3. First time advertisers and one time advertisers must pay in advance. Tearsheet confirmation will be sent to all repeat advertisers placing 1/4 page or larger ads. Tearsheets will be furnished upon publication for recurring ads. Payments for continuous advertising due within 30 days of publication date.
  4. Neither advertiser nor agency may cancel insertion orders after ad closing dates. Cancellation must be in writing and will not be considered accepted until confirmed by the Publisher.
  5. Only standard size space units may be used unless approved by the publisher. Publisher reserves the right to adjust the size of ads that do not conform to required dimensions, and to exclude advertising material from certain pages.
  6. Not So Modern Drummer will not be held responsible for advertiser’s materials after 90 days.
  7. Publisher shall not be liable for failure to print or circulate any issue if such failure is due to circumstances beyond the publisher’s control.
  8. Advertiser and agency, jointly and severally, will indemnify the officers and employees of Not So Modern Drummer against losses resulting from the publication of its advertisements, including suits for libel, violations of the right of privacy, copyright infringement, or plagiarism.
  9. NSMD will not be bound by conditions on contracts or insertion orders that may be in conflict with the provisions of this rate card.
