NASHVILLE, TN, May 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Son of pioneer drummer Stan Levey releases new CD
Colorado based drummer Bob Levey and his "Intervention Band" have released a refreshing new CD entitled "Homey."
Levey is the son of Bop Drummer Stan Levey http://www.stanlevey.com, one of the premiere storytellers in Ken Burns' "Jazz" documentary, who is considered one of the earliest bebop drummers, one of the very few white drummers involved in the formative years of bebop and accepted as one of bop's most important drummers, along with Kenny Clarke and Max Roach.
He played in Philadelphia with Dizzy Gillespie's group in 1942, at the age of 16. Soon after he went to New York, where he and Dizzy worked on 52nd Street with Charlie Parker, Oscar Pettiford, and every major star in the music business from that period.
Bob Levey is following in his father's footsteps, with an excellent and swinging new release called "Homey" with his group "The Intervention Band." The CD has been well received on jazz radio in the United States, and embraced by jazz fans around the globe.
Before giving up playing music professionally to raise his family, Bob Levey played in many clubs in the L.A. area, recorded for the dance show Boss City in the 60's with Jeannie Brown, played with Charlie Albertine (American Bandstand Theme), Phenias Newborn Jr, Bobby Nutcoff, the violin player with Neil Young's Band, and he also played with a young jazz group that included Ted Nash Jr., who went on to play in the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
Levey has even contributed to the world of Hip-Hop, most notably being sampled on the platinum sellling "When the Shit Goes Down" by Cypress Hill and De La Soul's "Intro" on the hit CD "Buhloone Mind State."
Homey is an album that is swingin' creative, fresh, and as relaxing as the Mile High Colorado air. Assisting Levey on this recording are Justin Pfeifer on piano, Ashton Taufer, a 23 yar old Berklee graduate on bass, and virtuoso Tim Fox on trumpet and piano

"You have to play it with feelling Bob, well you know about that"
"The beauty is that I can see the importance of this music in your life, you are living it..."I can feel the depth of your love in your sound...it's beautiful man, music respect my brother..."
Abraham Burton, sax player for Art Taylor and Louis Hayes
"I really enjoyed your playing as well. One of the things about your playing that I remember enjoying was the amount of space you used when comping (left hand) behind the soloist. You did what Airto Moreira said once in a clinic. He learned from Miles Davis: "you listen, and then play, and then you listen then play it"
Brazilian Drummer Henrique De Almedia
"I don't know if you believe in this stuff, but...You have "that sound" when I first heard you in that Colorado Jazz Festival, I asked the guys "Who is this drummer?" because it sounded like an old soul...it sounded impregnated with tradition...maybe it is in your DNA?
"Cool Stuff. Really cool old-school jazz, my friend. Play on brother."
Paul Barrare - vocalist/guitarist Little Feat
"Just had a chance to listen to the tunes you sent me. All I can say is Wow! You know it will get air time up here!"
Scott Harper - KJAX and Jazz Aspen Board Member
"You've got that touch, which I didn't doubt that you had at all. I knew you'd have it!!!

Oakland, CA, May 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Legendary drummer Zigaboo Modeliste released his 4th solo album on his label JZM Records entitled “New Life” in stores and digitally on May 3, 2011. With elements of rock, funk, and blues on a timeless R&B base, this record features the iconic drumming and celebratory songwriting style of Zigaboo and his hometown of New Orleans. It also incorporates the talents of several music icons including legendary arranger Wardell Quezerque, saxophonist Norbert Stachel, and trumpeter Mic Gillete of Tower of Power fame. The album can be downloaded from iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-life/id435186745) and CDs are available at Zigaboo.com, CDBaby.com/cd/zigaboomodeliste, and the Louisiana Music Factory.
A key ingredient in the outstanding flavor of “New Life” is the musical rapport these truly skilled artists created with Zigaboo. Musicians from both New Orleans and the San Francisco Bay Area came together to create a fun, upbeat album that is a notable addition to the New Orleans musical tradition. Included in the star-studded lineup is guitarist Shane Theriot (Neville Brothers, Madeleine Peyroux), master percussionist Bill Summers (Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder), keyboardist Eamonn Flynn (The Commitments), and organist Joe Krown (Gatemouth Brown).
“New Life,” which is also the title of the lead single, offers musical reflection and healing for the everyday ups and downs we all face and a heavy dose of rejuvenating spirit. “At the Mardi Gras” elaborates on the epicenter of New Orleans musical culture, the Carnival heritage. “Human Race” is an inspiring message from Zigaboo that “every man, woman, child of every nationality should be concerned with the human race as it is sacred.” Zigaboo’s songwriting talent is best featured on "Holiday Kiss" which is destined to be a classic ballad for all seasons. Taken in full, this album reminds the listener of all that can be gained from a fresh outlook on life while enriching them in a spiritual way with grooves, soul, and funk purism.

from Jim Uding, owner of the Drum Headquarters Drum Shop in St. Louis, this announcement on the store's website:
Customers, friends and colleagues,
I regret to inform you that effective Thursday, July 7, Drum Headquarters is closed for business. These are difficult times for specialized retailers and of course, Drum Headquarters is no exception. Since purchasing the business in 2005, a perfect storm of events including epic negative economic conditions and the accelerating changes brought on by technology have produced a wave of challenges bigger than I could withstand. I've been a part of Drum Headquarters since 1983, so this is not an easy announcement to make. But, I've done everything in my power to keep the doors of Drum Headquarters open and it is no longer possible.
Customers with unfinished business will be contacted directly.
The Lesson program will continue through the month of July. You will be contacted with instructions by your teacher.
THERE IS NO LIQUIDATION SALE SCHEDULED AT THIS TIME. Please continue to monitor DrumHeadquarters.com for updates.
Thank you for 30 years of support, fun and friendship.Jim Uding

Vinny and Carmine break out the heavy artillery in this entertaining no-holds barred battle to the finish. Carmine and Vinny...Vinny and Carmine! Don't know which one comes first, which one had the mustache first, or which one has the best legs! However, they are both great artists in their own genre. Carmine's track record includes Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, B.B.A. (Beck, Bogart and Appice), and Rod Stewart, to name a few. Not bad! Vinny has driven John Lennon, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell. Not bad! From the initial downbeat of this sibling confrontation, this spectacle culminates in the final battle of Drum Wars. The Ultimate Battle both playing with great power, imagination and musically spirited. So now, Drum Wars - The Tour where Carmine and Vinny demonstrate their sensational playing abilities. It is comedy in that they leave Laurel and Hardy very secure! It is entertainment in that it is great fun. Sincere, open and honest. Both drummers play great solos and great ensemble work in their own inimitable style. Their years of experience are reflected in their ability to respond musically to each other. I personally am honored to have them both as friends and musical colleagues. May the musical battle continue! - Vic Firth
