Hi,
This one is a bit of a transitional oddity, nothing earthshaking but a little quirky.
Notice that the air hole is one panel left of the strainer, usually we see the air hole one panel left of the butt plate. This drum is drilled as a 10 lug DeLuxe but the engraving is the scroll pattern usually seen on 6 and 8 lug DeLuxes from 1919 to 1924. The 10 lug era/12 pt. flower engraving started circa 1925. My best guess is that the 8 lug era passed on to the 10 lug era and this scroll engraved shell was left over from the 8 lug era, drilled for the 10 lug era and sold. It is also quite possible that this was a special order to a picky collector of that era. I always welcome your comments and photos.
Enjoy!
