Richard Best, who is one of our NSMD columnists, has invented a nifty little drummer’s helper device that is designed to loosen or tighten wing nuts with more leverage than just your fingers. I keep one in my stick bag now because I have some wing nuts on my bass drum mounts that are hard to turn because they are in awkward places and hurt my fingers. It has two recesses to fit most any size wing nut. It’s made of a hard composite and won’t break. The handle fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. I’ve also found that, for square head screws and tension rods, the tool will fit over a drum key. Here’s what Richard says about his invention:

“A drum key for the rest of your stuff”!

“The Wingnut Wizard was designed to give the drummer maximum control when setting up and tearing down while minimizing the risk of damage to parts. The tool gives excellent tactile feedback, which helps you tighten a wingnut to an ideal position, and provides enough leverage to loosen all but the most wretchedly tight wingnut. The Wingnut Wizard is a boon if you have trouble with wingnuts due to, for example, arthritis.

Features
• “Drummer Friendly” - works just like a drum key
• Comfortable in the hand
• Provides superior tactile feedback ... no more accidental under- or over-tightening!
• Avoids damage caused by inappropriate tools
• Fits all but the most out-sized wingnuts
• Compact size lets you get into small or awkward spaces
• Fits in a vest pocket
• Rugged ABS-like plastic resin in a range of colours”
