Review - Brunson Percussion 6.5" x 14 Bronze Beauty

December 1, 2023 George Lawrence

Brunson Percussion has come up with a winner. I would buy this one for myself if I needed another snare drum! When I saw that this drum had been listed on DrumSellers, it was so striking and beautiful that I requested one for review. It’s a heavy drum, weighing in at 11 Pounds, 6 ounces, so not for the faint of heart. I have always liked Slingerland style Stick Saver hoops. The 3mmhoops on this drum are a little more substantial then standard 2.3 mm hoops and can go head to head with die cast hoops. And they are taller Super Hoops. They make for a stout rim shot. The rotary throw off is very smooth and well built. The heads are Remos and the snare wires are typical 16 strand bronze wires.

The lug design is Scott Brunson’s brainchild. He has spent years designing and re-designing this system. It is reminiscent of the failed and discontinued Yamaha 2 pc. Nouveau lugs…but without all the problems. The posts are mounted to the shell with a very solid backing plate. Also there are air vents in each lug so no need for an air hole grommet in the shell. The design allows the drummer to do quick head changes without having to completely unscrew each tension rod. The aesthetics of this drum are beautiful. The patina’d bronze is deep and classy, and the chrome and highly polished aluminum provides the contrast. It is gorgeous.

I did a quick video so you get to listen to my lazy old school drumming. I’ll probably upload more videos of this drum on my YouTube channel so please subscribe to it. The drum responds well, has a wide tuning range, and a great rim shot and side stick sound. Best of all, the price. Try to find a very high quality new bronze drum elsewhere for $460. You can’t! Please visit the listing for this drum on DrumSellers.com to see more pictures and description.
