1955 WFL Black & White and Colorized versions of the 1955 catalog with a few big differences.
The black & white catalog is the “Special School Catalog Supplement” and only 20 pages highlighting school instruments and accessories of the day, or what they considered school requirements back then.
The colorized catalog is the regular “Catalog 55” we’ve all come to know. It’s 48 pages long and showcases all their offerings of the day.
I’m sure WFL supplied the schools with the black & white edition to save a few dollars with the printers, probably a good solid business decision.
Within a few years most drum companies including WFL/Ludwig were using real color photographs as opposed to colored drawings.
Both are interesting and fun to read and admire the wares of the day, and it’s cool to pick out the contrasts between the two.
Thank you for always reading and commenting!
Stay tuned…
