One of the crown jewels of my collection, is this 1928-1930 Ludwig & Ludwig Peacock Pearl 5 X 14 Super-Ludwig, Model No. 241-PK. In my humble view, this century young visual and sonic masterpiece features one of the most beautiful finishes to ever adorn a drum.
The 1928 Ludwig & Ludwig describes this finish, “A sparkling mixture of rich blues, browns and reds makes a whirl of color here represented as “Peacock Pearl.” This illustration does not do justice to the colorful markings of this new finish.”
This first version of Pyralin Peacock Pearl finish was available from about 1928-1930. A subsequent version was then manufactured from 1930 to 1932 which featured a greener, bluer and less purpley palette of colours.
I hope you enjoy this magnificent example directly out of the truly golden age of American snare drum manufacturing!
