Yeah, that’s me on the milk can. I used it as a throne in high school. I can’t recall the name of this particular band but I’m pretty sure it was put together by me and these other Murrah high school band geeks for the Jackson MS Arts Festival. Band Geeks Rule!

Sorry for this issue being late. There was a propagation problem with the Squarespace website that NSMD uses.

This month was a rough one. Besides all my ills, pills, aches and pains that kept me sidelined many days, this last week of August Memphis was hit with “bow echo winds” up to 90 mph. Power outage to 120,000+ customers including me and Georgetta. One hundred degree heat and humidity in the deep South is like trying to swim in boiling water. Whew!

The response to my request for the new “Show us your vintage drum” feature was great. Check it out. I think we have a couple of possible new column writers!

We lost two legendary drummers this month – Frank Beard of ZZ Top and, drum roll please…Dolly Parton! Yes, Dolly. She of the angelic voice played snare drum in her high school band in the Smoky Mountains. Both deserving of the “Not So Modern Drummer” moniker of honor.
