From The Editor - Consignments and Brokerage

November 29, 2025 George Lawrence

Want to sell your gear? The NSMD sister site, DrumSellers.com, is similar to Ebay and Reverb. Free listings, 4% commission if it sells, and sellers use paypal business account for payments, BUT if you would rather sell in an old fashioned way through Not So Modern Drummer there are several ways to do it.

#1 Simple Classified Ad - is a flat $25 for each item; snare drum, drum set, cymbal(s) etc. and runs for a month. You email me the jpeg pictures, and the descriptions in a text file. I make the listing and post it on the website AND it is sent out to the entire email list of 42,000+ NSMD subscribers. The listing is published on the site in the Classified blog. Your contact info is in the listing for buyers. You make the deal. You arrange payment and shipping. No middle man. You contact me to remove the ad when it sells. Just like in the newspaper classifieds (remember newspapers?).

#2 Consignment/brokerage Ad - If you do not want to talk to buyers, accept digital payments, don’t know what to write for the description, don’t know what the value of your item is, just need to get the items out of your house, etc. I can take care of all that for you. The only thing you need to do is send me good jpeg pictures and a text description. I will handle as much of the sale as you want. You will need to ship the item to the buyer and I can advise you on how to ship. I prefer to not store your gear at my house during this process but will consider it in extenuating circumstances. The fee for all this is based on a percentage of the sale price and ranges from 10% to 30% depending on how much work is entailed for me. This is basically a personal concierge broker service. I can give you references from people who have used my brokerage service.
